Quick Guide: Guided Tissue Regeneration
If you have periodontal disease, you might be in danger of losing your teeth. Claire Cho DDS is here to show you how a dental technology known as guided tissue regeneration can help you retain your teeth and your smile. Let Dr. Claire Cho show you how easy it can be to keep your teeth and improve the overall health of your teeth.
What It Is
Guided tissue regeneration, also known as GTR, makes it possible for your tissues and bone to grow around the teeth you’re in danger of losing to periodontal disease. What makes this option different from others designed to regrow your teeth and bones is GTR is predictable and not as limited as other treatment options. What’s more is alternate treatment options might require that you lose gum tissue, which can compromise the general appearance of your teeth and smile.
How It Works
During GTR, your gums are separated from the threatened tooth before all infected tissue is removed and the tooth is cleaned. A protective membrane is then placed against the tooth before the gum is put back in place. It’s as simple as that.
Patient Advantages
While there are other things you can do to safeguard your teeth, GTR is one of your best options. One of the biggest reasons for this is that tissue regeneration is easier to predict when compared with other treatment options. What’s more is you’ll likely find that healing from GTR is faster than similar treatments. With all this in mind, know that the patient determines how well the results are. It’s up to you to take proper care of yourself and your teeth after your treatment, otherwise, you might not get the results you expect.
