What is gum disease?

First, it is vital that patients understand what gum disease is. Gum disease, or periodontal disease, is an infection that impacts the soft tissues of the mouth and then spreads. It not only causes bacteria to enter the bloodstream and affect the rest of the body, it also can cause the loss of gum tissue, jawbone, and natural teeth. If not diagnosed and treated in the earlier stages, it can cause extensive damage.

How is gum disease treated?

The most effective treatment is periodontal treatments using laser therapies. A laser light is used to treat the infection by eliminating the bacteria that contributes to the development of this condition. Laser treatment does not require sutures, scaling, or root planing as traditional treatments do.
