If the idea of dental implant surgery makes you nervous, you’re not alone. Many patients feel anxious about the process, especially when they are unfamiliar with what to expect. At Claire Cho DDS, we are committed to providing a clear, supportive experience from start to finish.

Process of Getting Teeth Implants in Aliso Viejo CA Area

Below are some of the most common questions nervous patients ask about the process of getting teeth implants—along with reassuring answers to help put your mind at ease:

Is getting a dental implant painful?

Most patients are surprised to learn that getting a dental implant is not as painful as they expect. We use local anesthesia to numb the area, and many patients report feeling little more than mild pressure during the procedure. Any post-operative discomfort is typically manageable with over-the-counter medication and subsides within a few days. For those with anxiety, sedation options are also available to make the experience even more comfortable.

How long does the dental implant process take from start to finish?

The dental implant process involves several stages that unfold over a few months. After the initial consultation and imaging, the implant is surgically placed into the jawbone. After this, a healing period of several months allows the implant to fuse with the bone—a process known as osseointegration. Once healed, an abutment and custom crown are placed. Dr. Cho will guide you through each step so there are no surprises along the way.

What is recovery like after implant surgery?

Recovery is usually smoother than people anticipate. You may experience some swelling, tenderness, or minor bruising near the surgical site, but most patients can return to normal activities within a day or two. Following our post-operative instructions—such as eating soft foods and avoiding strenuous activity—will help speed up healing and minimize any discomfort.

Will I be left without a tooth while the implant heals?

No, you will not be left with a visible gap. Depending on your specific case, we can place a temporary crown or restoration while the implant site heals. This ensures your smile stays intact and your confidence remains high during the entire treatment process.

What happens if I am too nervous to go through with the surgery?

It is completely natural to feel apprehensive about dental surgery. we specialize in working with anxious patients and offer several ways to help you feel more at ease, including clear communication, gentle care, and sedation options when needed. The first step is simply coming in for a consultation to learn more and ask questions—there is no pressure to commit right away.
