Transform Your Smile
without Braces or Surgery

Porcelain veneers hide imperfections for a dazzling smile in Aliso Viejo, CA

Permanently stained teeth, crooked teeth, and other cosmetic issues may be preventing you from feeling your best about your smile. Historically, invasive or time-consuming treatments such as surgery and braces were the only ways to treat these issues, but thanks to modern dental technologies, you can completely transform your smile in just a couple of visits with porcelain veneers. Dr. Claire Cho uses this versatile treatment to help patients achieve stunning smiles in a short amount of time.

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin pieces of porcelain that are custom-designed, shaped, and shaded before they are bonded onto the front surfaces of your teeth. Veneers are a highly customized treatment that can be used to hide a wide variety of imperfections. Patients choose veneers for:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Oddly shaped teeth
  • Permanent stains or discolorations that are unresponsive to whitening
  • Small teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Crowding
  • Small chips or cracks
  • Uneven wear and tear
  • Worn-down enamel

What are porcelain veneers?

We use porcelain veneers a lot at Dr. Cho’s office because we do a lot of cosmetic work. Dr. Cho has had extensive training in cosmetic dentistry, and it’s a big part of our practice.

Porcelain veneers are a casing of porcelain placed on top of teeth so that you can change the color, shape, close spaces, and sometimes change the bite.

Who is the ideal candidate?

We see more older patients than younger ones because, as we age, our teeth do wear and develop cracks, and placing porcelain veneers can rejuvenate their smiles and change their lives.

The choice of porcelain used differs case by case, but the life-changing smiles we can create for patients by doing this procedure can truly give patients new confidence.

Determining whether veneers are right for you

The first step in transforming your smile with veneers is to visit Dr. Cho for an in-depth consultation. She will evaluate your smile and talk with you about your goals to help you determine whether porcelain veneers are the right choice for your individual needs and preferences. Most patients are good candidates for veneers, but if you smoke or have teeth that have been weakened due to decay or injury, another type of treatment may be a better option. Additionally, patients with active oral health issues such as periodontal disease, tooth loss, or decay typically need to have these issues treated before undergoing veneer placement, and in some cases, severely crooked or gapped teeth may require orthodontic treatment.

Am I a Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Patients of all types may wish to fix teeth with porcelain veneers and benefit from the placement of porcelain veneers. However, those who smoke or have weak teeth may not be candidates. Additionally, those who have periodontal disease, decay, missing teeth, or who need major orthodontic work may require additional treatments prior to having veneers placed. The removal of any natural tooth structure, including enamel, is permanent. Thus, your doctor may suggest that you seek alternative forms of treatment rather than fix teeth with veneers if your teeth are still functionally and aesthetically adequate. Common reasons people choose veneers include

  • Worn enamel
  • Wear and tear
  • Uneven teeth
  • Permanent stains
  • Teeth dissimilar in color or contour

The process for placing porcelain veneers

Placing porcelain veneers typically takes three visits to our office. After the initial consultation discussed above, you will come in to have your teeth prepared for veneer placement. We remove a minor amount of enamel from the surface of your teeth (about 0.5 mm) so that the veneer will not be too bulky once it is placed over the top of your tooth surface. Then, we take dental impressions of your teeth so that your veneers can be custom-fabricated to our precise specifications at one of our partner laboratories. Then, about two to three weeks later when your permanent veneers are ready, we will try them on, adjusting the shape and fit as needed before placing them on to your teeth with a strong bonding agent. Once your treatment is complete, you are free to enjoy your dazzling new smile!

I wasn't experiencing any type of symptoms as for pain but it was more of, I wanted a smile makeover. I really was not happy with the smile that I had with what I presented when I was smiling when I was laughing and I was very self-conscious of it. So, when I had the opportunity financially, I decided to make the decision from the very beginning from the person who greets you at the door to the explanation of everything that's going to be done, the genuineness of Doctor Cho really comes through. I can't emphasize so much how comfortable I felt afterwards. It makes a huge difference to know that they truly care about your comfort while you're going through this. I would not go anywhere else. I can't I can't recommend this place highly enough. I when I decided to do this in 2016, I was coming up to my 40th high school reunion, and I was doing the planning on that and it was at that point yes, the vanity what am I going to look like but then again once I saw this then I realized that I do need to take care of this. I smiled that whole evening, that whole evening of the party I smiled so much I couldn't stop smiling. The joy has seen my friends that I had not seen in 40 years but also knowing that I could smile and that I wasn't embarrassed that I didn't want to hold back. I really wanted to show off my teeth because I was proud and I was very, very, happy that I really had the opportunity to meet Doctor Cho and her staff and to know that in a sense there's a miracle worker out there oh yeah, yeah, she's been blessed with a gift to make people smile, help them smile again for the very first time I had the complete set of teeth that I should have had from the very beginning. She gave me the smile; I’ve always, always, wanted it's a huge relief. It's knowing that what I'm feeling I can actually show now and not be afraid of my smile or and be embarrassed about my smile.

How Do I Care for My Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers act much like your natural teeth. However, you must take care to not abuse the veneers, as they can be broken or damaged. We suggest that you avoid biting into foods that are hard or firm with your veneered teeth to minimize shock to the veneers. You may also be asked to wear a night guard to protect your teeth if you grind your teeth in your sleep. Continuing to follow good oral hygiene procedures will also help to lengthen the lifespan of your veneers. Continue to brush and floss twice daily, and maintain regular dental visits at our Aliso Viejo, CA office for cleanings and exam. By following these instructions, will find that your porcelain veneers can last for many years!
