Osseous Surgery vs LANAP®

Because of the advances in dental technology, it’s easier than ever to treat periodontal disease in Aliso Viejo, CA and Mission Viejo, CA and a host of other oral health issues. Specifically, LANAP®, also known as Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure surgery is much more advanced than traditional surgery, which means you enjoy better results that bring out the best in your smile. Know that our patients at Claire Cho DDS can receive either traditional osseous surgery based on their preferences as well as their specific dental needs.

LANAP Process

Traditional Surgery

With traditional periodontal surgery, a scalpel is used to access the area that requires treatment. Because healthy gum tissue is being operated on, there is a chance doing so could result in gum recession, which means a gum graft may be required later on to maintain the health of your gums. To help you stay calm during traditional surgery, know that we offer our patients sedation dentistry options.

LANAP® Surgery

Rather than using a scalpel, more advanced treatment for periodontal disease instead uses a laser, which doesn’t cut into healthy gums. Bleeding is minimized, which goes a long way in your overall recovery and healing. What’s more is the fact that you’ll experience minimal discomfort, and your procedure will go faster with the use of a laser. Additional benefits of laser treatment instead of a standard scalpel include:

  • Little to no recession of the gums
  • Decreased sensitivity
  • Less risk of infection.
