The seven steps in getting a crown for a tooth using CEREC technology
A dental crown is a wonderful solution for teeth that might be weak or damaged and can be created using today’s amazing technology. If you want a crown, the fastest way is with a dental provider offering CEREC technology. Let’s look at the required process to decide if CEREC crowns are right for you!

The seven steps in getting a dental crown using CEREC technology at Dental Health and Aesthetics Center
- Consultation appointment. First, Dr. Claire Cho and her team will assess your current smile to determine if you could benefit from a dental crown. These caps are often used when a large portion of the tooth is damaged or missing, and they can help restore functionality and aesthetics to your smile. During this initial appointment, we will also discuss your eligibility for CEREC technology and answer any questions you may have.
- Preparing the tooth. Once you decide to proceed with a dental crown, the next step is preparing the natural tooth for the procedure. This typically involves removing any of the decayed or damaged portions of the tooth and shaping it to fit the crown properly. Our team utilizes local anesthesia to ensure you are comfortable throughout this process.
- Digital impressions. Unlike traditional methods, which require messy impression materials, CEREC technology at the Dental Health and Aesthetics Center uses digital scans of your teeth to create a 3D model. This allows for a more accurate fit and eliminates the need for multiple appointments.
- Creating the crown. Once the digital impressions are taken with Dr. Claire Cho, our team will use CEREC software to design your custom crown. This process typically takes about 15 minutes, and you can even watch as it is created right before you!
- Milling the crown. After the design is finished, a block of ceramic material selected especially for the color and contour of your tooth will be milled into your crown by our CEREC machine. The milling process usually takes less than an hour, so you won’t have to wait long for your permanent crown.
- Bonding the crown. Once the crown is milled, we will check for any final adjustments and bond it to your natural tooth using a strong dental adhesive. This process usually takes about 10-15 minutes, and you can leave our office with your new permanent crown in place.
- Care and maintenance of your new crown. It’s important to take care of your new crown just like you would any other tooth. Be sure to brush and floss daily and maintain regular dental cleanings and check-ups. Avoid chewing on hard or even sticky foods that could damage the crown, and if you notice any issues such as pain or discomfort, be sure to schedule an appointment with us as soon as possible!
