CEREC Dental Crowns Are Sweeping the Nation and Are More Popular Than Ever
For many years, a dental crown was a long and painstaking process requiring multiple appointments, physical impressions, and temporary crowns. Thanks to the ever-evolving nature of dental technology, an alternative has been sweeping the nation recently called CEREC dental crowns. The CEREC dental crown process allows this previously lengthy process to be completed within a single appointment. Patients in the Aliso Viejo, California area, have been introduced to this new dental crown process by Dr. Claire Cho and the team at Claire Cho DDS. Dr. Cho is always seeking out the latest in dental technologies so that her office can provide patients with a dental experience that is convenient, safe, and comfortable.
How Is CEREC Different from Traditional Crowns?
The biggest difference with CEREC dental crowns, when compared to traditional crowns, is that the crown is manufactured within a single appointment at your dentist’s office. Traditional crowns would require multiple appointments due to the necessity of having an off-site lab create your crown. You would need to provide a physical impression of your mouth, which would be sent into this off-site lab. In the meantime, you’d be given a temporary crown as you wait 2 to 4 weeks for the permanent crown to come in.
With CEREC technology, there are no impressions or off-site labs. Using a state-of-the-art digital scanner, a digital image of your teeth is taken using a wand-like instrument with a camera/scanner attached to the end. This process sends a full image of your mouth to a computer at your dentist’s office, where your tooth can be examined. That image is then sent to another machine on-site, where your dental crown is then crafted. From there, it is placed just like a regular crown, and you will be out the door with your new crown in place. A CEREC crown offers this convenience while producing a crown that is just as strong and durable as a traditional crown.
